The kids had a wonderful time learning from their Rocky Mountain College teachers. Check out this link to their published pieces. They were working on learning the 6 + 1 traits or writing!

Happy Thanksgiving Week!! Even with this short week, we have a lot of learning to do!!
This week we will be working on understanding the writing trait of voice. We will talk about "strong" verbs and "weak" verbs, and how "strong" verbs can bring our writing to life! We will also be exploring how voice in writing can make us feel a certain way. In math we will continue working on division. We will be dividing by 8 & 9 and with 0 & 1. Please make sure your kiddo is still practicing their multiplication facts at home EVERY night!! It is so important and does not take too long!! In class we made flash cards of the facts we are memorizing, that could be a great thing to do at home too!! We are lucky enough this week to have the chance to make Blessing Bags with Rachel Johnson (Presley's mom). I am so excited and I think the kids will love it! Remember that Tuesday is a half day, we dismiss at noon, your kiddo can bring a large snack on Tuesday. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. I am so thankful to have the opportunity to work with such wonderful kiddos every day Last week we finished up our inquiry projects for Unit 2, check them out under student work later this weekend! The kids did a great job! This week we will begin looking more into our new theme question about how geography shapes a community. We will be using the comprehension skills of questioning, paraphrasing, and using context clues. We will also be learning about inflected endings (-ed and -ing).
In math we will continue to work on dividing. The kids we SO excited to start dividing and really enjoyed the division as sharing model. This week we will look at dividing by 2, 5, 3, 4, 6, and 7. Please continue to practice multiplication at home, we are still working on memorizing our facts! In science we are studying the plant life cycle and in social studies we are learning about the Montana Indian tribes. Homework this week will be our reading log, multiplication quiz 3, and another time to the minute review. This week we are also talking and writing about things that we are thankful for and I just want you all to know how thankful I am to have your child in my class! I truly enjoy them and I feel so blessed to come and work with them every day! Have a wonderful week! In reading this week we are starting Unit 3 in Lead21, The Shape of the Land. In this unit the kids will be reading to find answers to our theme question: How does geography shape a community? We will focus on the skills or questioning and paraphrasing. We will also spend time learning about noun suffixes. Throughout the week we will continue to work on our inquiry projects from Unit 2, the kids have chosen to do skits to share their information and they are turing out so great!! We are hoping to present on Friday.
In math we will start the week reinforcing time the the minutes and elapsed time. Then later in the week we will start thinking conceptually about division. We will start with division as sharing and then division as repeated subtraction. Please check out these videos to explain division as sharing and division as repeated subtraction. In writing we will be working stories to go with our art that came to life on Friday (check out the pictures under photos). The kids will have to use all the elements of a story to write about their art. They will need a setting, characters, pot, problem, and resolution. Believe fundraiser items come in this week. You can pick them up on Thursday in the music room from 2-6. Please remember to study your spelling words every night at home and it's always great to practice some math facts!! Have a wonderful week everyone! I was not as prepared as I needed to be for Tuesday folders today and I realized that I forgot to print the reading log. I told the kids that just because they do not have a reading log in their folder it does not mean that they don't need to be reading!!! I am still hoping and expecting them to be reading at least 15 minutes at home every night!! Thanks so much and have a wonderful rest of y
Happy Parent/Teacher Conference Week! :) I am excited to get the chance to see and chat with all of the parents this week! Because of P/T conferences we have an early out on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at noon. Lunch will not be served Wed.-Fri. so your kiddos can bring a larger snack if they would like.
Report cards will come home on Tuesday in the Tuesday folders. Along with the report cards there is also a letter reviewing the changes in report cards and grading this year. There will also be a questionnaire from me with just a couple questions for you to answer and return on Wednesday so that I can try to address any questions or concerns that you have at your scheduled conference. This is our last week of Unit 2 in reading and we will spend our time reviewing summarizing and predicting. We well also compare and contrast the two stories from our theme reader for this unit. We will end the week with a benchmark test to assess our skills from the first 2 units. In math we are working on time this week. We will start with time to the quarter and half hour, then time to the minute, and end the week with elapsed time. Now that we have learned the strategies for multiplying each of the factors we are also going to start memorizing them. Part of this is working on our multiplication facts at home. For homework this week the kids will need to work on memorizing 6 multiplication facts, they will come home in Tuesday folders. This will go on for 6 weeks and by the time we are done with the six weeks it is our hope that the kids will have most of their multiplication facts memorized. |
All About Me
This school year will mark my seventh year of teaching and I must say I am so blessed to be a part of such a great community at Arrowhead school. I am excited to begin a new year with a wonderful group of kids!! I grew up in Helena and attended college in Bozeman, MT at MSU. Go Bobcats! While there I obtained a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Reading. In 2016 I received a masters degree in Education Leadership. Six years ago I married my high school sweetheart, Tymon. We also have a five year old adorable mini australian shepherd puppy, Molly. This year we are also welcoming our first child in February and we are so excited to be parents! When I am not teaching I love to be outside enjoying hiking trails or taking in a sporting event. CategoriesArchives
