We ended 3rd quarter with a bang! On Thursday (now known as "yay day" just ask your kiddo about that one), we went up to the Rocky Mountain College airport hanger. We had such a blast learning about their planes, learning some flight history, and even getting to sit in one of the planes and control the steering! Please check out the "photos" tab for tons of pictures! On Thursday we also attended the science fair and looked at all the neat presentations. Emmett did a science experiment this year and shared his with us as well! Way to go, Emmett!
On Friday I also introduced our wax museum projects. For this project the kids will need to choose someone famous from history that they would like to research. We would like it to be someone who inspires them, or someone that they view as a hero. We brainstormed some people on Friday, but I would like them to come in Monday knowing who they would like to research. Then throughout the next month we will research and write reports and at the end of our report they will get to become that person for a day. They get to dress as whomever they researched. They will write speeches and perform as that person on Friday, May 12th. I'll be sending home a letter all about it in Tuesday Folders this week.
In reading this week we will be starting a new unit. Our essential question this week is: How do we get what we need? We will be focusing on the skills of summarizing, point of view, fairy tales, and root words. In grammar this week we will focus on pronouns. In writing we will finish our personal narratives and share in author's chair. We will also start researching our person for the wax museum project.
In math this week will be learning about perimeter and area.
I will be out of the classroom on Thursday, March 30th, but I will still be in the school. Mrs. Meier will be gone this week and so she would like me to fill in for her on Thursday as principal for a day! My guest teacher will be Ms. Summerville, she was a student teacher in the building last fall and will do a great job.
