In reading this week we are revisiting our two stories from unit 6: Living in Extremes and Hottest, Coldest, Highest, Deepest. We will spend some time comparing the two stories. We will also focus on making connections, identifying the main idea and supporting details, idioms, classifying words, and multiple meaning words. We will also spend some time on our inquiry projects where the kids have researched to animals and their adaptations. They are now working on putting their work into a mural.
In writing we will finish up our compare and contrast paragraphs and then we will be typing them to include in our inquiry projects. We will then start a poetry unit and learn about cinquian's and diamonte's. I am very excited to start the poetry unit, as the kids tend to love writing poetry!
In math last week we ended up focusing most the week on quadrilaterals. So this week we will move on to triangles, lines and line segments, and solid figures. The kids came up with quadrilateral riddles on kidblog last week, you could hop on and try to guess their quadrilateral if you want!
In science this week the kids will be building pulley's for PLTW and in social studies we will look at supply and demand situations.
I hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful weekend! The kids and I talked this week about the importance of practice math facts at home. When we took a fluency quiz for multiplication we found that many of us need to practice our quickness with our multiplication facts. One way to do this is through flash card practice, even just 10 minutes a night. You can find flash cards at the $1 store and the practice can really help!! I highly recommend doing this every night!
Homework: flashcard practice, reading log, addition and subtraction practice.
Code Word: Easter Break
