Last week the kids had a blast and learned a lot at their field trip to the airport. Many of them said their favorite part was getting to sit in the cockpit and wear the headset! Check out pictures under the "photos" tab.
This week in reading we will revisit both stories from this unit: Heroes Across Time and The Hunter. We will focus on the skills of summarizing, antonyms, context clues, and descriptive language. We will also spend a significant amount of time working on our hero reports. This week we will begin and hopefully finish our reports so that the kids can start their speeches for the Wax Museum. We will also begin working on our posters at school. The Wax Museum will be on Friday, March 18th from 8:30-9:30 and we invite you to come and watch your kiddo, it really is fun to see!!
In math we will look at relating fractions to whole numbers or improper fractions, fractions of a group (set model), and problem solving with fractions.
In science we will finish making a pulley and hopefully begin building a compound machine. We are going to use our social studies time this week to work on our hero projects.
Last week during morning meeting we talked about responsibility. As part of the discussion we decided part of the kids responsibility as a student is to finish all their work. We then discussed how in 4th grade if their work is not finished they must take it home and complete it so they don't have a missing assignment. In an effort to help them prepare for 4th grade, we are going to try this for the last portion of the year. So if the kids don't finish one of their morning centers or their math assignment they will bring it home and will need to finish it at home and bring it back the next day. I'm also hoping that this will motivate them to use their class time wisely and complete assignments. I will have a homework folder for the kids that should just stay in their backpack to take that homework back and forth. Please let me know if you have any questions on this!
This month has been a very strange month for me. I have to apologize for all the days I have missed, I truly usually don't miss this much school and it stresses me out to do so. Unfortunately I will be gone again on Tuesday, Tymon's grandpa passed away last Sunday and we will be going to Helena for the funeral. We were so thankful that we went home a couple weeks ago to see him, and we knew it was coming as he had been going downhill, but it is still always hard to lose a loved one. Mrs. Hanna will be in again as my guest teacher.
Homework: reading log, division practice
Code Word: Leap Year!
