This week in reading we are reading a story called The Hunter and still focusing on our theme question: what qualities does a hero have? We will be focusing on the skills of making predictions, using descriptive language, recalling and retelling the story, and prefixes. In inquiry this week we will be writing our speeches for the wax museum. We will also be making our backdrops. For part of homework this week I would like the kids to print a couple pictures of their person for us to add to their backdrop on Friday. Please no more than 3 pictures and just let me know if you don't have access to a printer at home and we can figure something out at school.
In writing this week we still have a couple kiddos finishing up their descriptive essays. The rest of the week will be spent working on their hero reports. We will also be looking at the grammar topics of adverbs, abbreviations, and troublesome words.
In math this week we will be learning about equivalent fractions. Chat with your kiddos and see if they can predict what an equivalent fraction might be just from the word, here is an example, 1/2 and 2/4 are equivalent fractions.
In social studies we are reading about how we are alike around the world. In science we are beginning our next unit called Forces and Interactions. We will start by learning about the forces of resistance and effort. This week Laci's mom Nita will also be in to work on a fun activity to go with Chinese New Year!

I also told the kids to start thinking about what they would like to wear for their costume for the wax museum. This week we will brainstorm at school and if there is something they need but do not have at home I was hoping as a group we could come up with something! Don't forget you are invited to come and see the wax museum on Monday, March 9th from 8:30-9!!
