I will use this blog as my main source of communication. Every weekend I will post upcoming events for the week, as well as a general rundown of what will be happening in the classroom. This is a great way for a quick check-in to your kiddos day-to-day activities and lessons. I hope you will have the opportunity to read each week. I also post a "code word" at the bottom of each post, and if the kids (or you) write it in their planner they get an extra $20. This is just a reward for getting on the blog and knowing what will be going on for the week! I will pay for the code word until Tuesday, after that we are too far into the week. If you have questions please let me know!
I am so excited (and so is Mr. Pertuit) that many of you signed up to do PEAK, our after school fitness program. It starts this Monday and runs from 3:00-4:00 every Monday, Wednesday, Friday. I need to remind you that for third grade that means you have to go home after school and come back at 3:00, you can't stay at the school (other than those of you already registered for the CARE program, you can come right from CARE). I try to join the PEAK workouts as much as I can so I look forward to seeing you there.
This year we have a couple peanut allergies in our classroom. I would ask that for any birthday treats we try to avoid anything with nuts. We also have 26 kiddos this year, when you are planning for treats. :) Also, for those kiddos with peanut allergies, Mrs. Meier has made a peanut free table in the lunch room this year if you would like to sit at it. You do not have to, but if you choose to you can pick one friend to sit with you. Please let me know if this is something you would like.
In reading this week we are starting our new reading curriculum, Wonders. I'm so excited to jump in and get going with it! We will start with learning some close reading annotations and work on our rotation routine. In writing we are working on two small pieces this week. Both are a chance for me to see where each kiddo is at for writing.
In math this week we will be learning about rounding to the nearest ten and hundred. We will end the week working on estimating sums.
Upcoming Events:
- Sept. 5: Labor Day-No School
- Sept. 7-9: Fall NWEA testing. We will test from 8:30-10:30 each of those mornings.
- Sept. 8: Open House 6 p.m.
