This week in reading we will revisit both stories from this unit: Discovering the Story of the Earth and Boy, Were We Wrong About the Dinosaurs. We will also review visualizing, making analogies, categorizing and classifying, using a dictionary, and similes. We will also spend some time finishing up our inquiry projects, I hope to be ready to present on Friday.
In writing this week we will finish up our persuasive advertisements and share them at author's chair. We will also work on writing a descriptive paragraph using adjectives and similes.
In math this week we will continue practicing division, trying to get to a point that we can fluently divide. We will work on dividing by 4, 6, 7, and 8. We will also continue the math groups this week, I was very happy with how they went last week.
In science this week we will learn about simple machines and have the opportunity to collaborate with a team to start building a simple machine that has a wheel and an axle.
Homework: reading log, week 5 multiplication practice, addition/subtraction practice
- Last week I also sent home a page for the kids to interview someone they admire about a time that they struggled or failed and how they got through it. All week we talked about having a growth mindset compared to a fixed mindset. This is a great opportunity for the kids to hear about a time someone they loved had to persevere and how they did that. This is due back on Friday.
- Book orders due Friday, February 5th.
- A letter will come home in Tuesday folders this week all about Valentine's day. Our party is on Thursday the 11th from 10:45-11:45. The kids can make their boxes or bags at home and can begin bringing them in on Wednesday the 10th.
Upcoming Events:
- Brooklyn Mayer Pizza Ranch Fundraiser
We also had a great visit from Addison's dog this last week! What a sweet pup!!
