We are taking our winter NWEA tests this week. We will take our reading test on Monday from 8:30-10:30 and we will take our math test on Tuesday from about 9:30-11:30. We are just looking to see mid-year growth for the kiddos! I told the kids that we can chew gum for these tests, I will have gum for them, but if they have a certain kind that they like they are welcome to bring it.
For the rest of the week in reading we are playing a little catch up from last week on skills we didn't quite get to, such as: using a dictionary and glossary, distinguishing fact from opinion, and prefixes telling number. We will also be working on research for our unit 4 inquiry projects.
In math we will continue practicing division through division as repeated subtraction, relating multiplication and division, division problem solving, and multiplication/division fact families. We will also be into week 2 of our multiplication memorization the facts for this week are: 9x3=27, 5x9=45, 8x8=64, 2x3=6, 7x4=28, 4x5=20. Please practice these at home as well as last week's facts (a letter will come home in Tuesday folders with all the facts).
In writing this week we are working on our rough drafts of our persuasive advertisements. For the assignment the kids got to invent something and then they have to persuade people to purchase it. For the final product they will be writing a paragraph and creating a poster.
In science we are finishing up our glider challenge trials. With a partner the kids had to redesign their gliders to be able to carry "cargo" (binder clips/paper clips) at least 10 ft. So far they are doing great!! In social studies we will be learning about what makes a community diverse.
Friday is the end of 2nd quarter! Wow, time flies!! Report cards will go home next Friday the 22nd.
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! I'm excited to go watch Zach play hockey tonight (Friday) and we will celebrate Boden's birthday on Tuesday!!
