- We need to work as a team
- Let's communicate
- Believe in each other
- Use kind words
- This is so fun!
All good things to hear while having students work with their peers! Check out some pictures from that activity under the photos tab.
On Friday we also started our first artist study. We learned a little about Vincent van Gogh on Friday morning and did an imitation of his sunflowers painting. This is one of my favorite art projects all year because even through it is step-by-step, each kiddos turns out so different and unique and yet so beautiful! Check out those pictures under the photos tab.
This week is a short week and a busy week! Remember we are NWEA testing on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday morning from 8:30-10:30, try to have your child there during that time so that we don't need to worry about make-up testing. 3rd grade is the first year they do NWEA testing and we will test again in the spring to look for growth. We take a reading, math, and language test. The tests can seem difficult this first time around because they are so new and much of the math tested are things the kids will be learning this year, but I always tell the kids all I can ever ask of them is to try and do their best!
In reading this week we will be working on our first inquiry projects based around the question: How do the changes around us make us who we are? In writing we will finish up our "My Powerful Wish" writing where the kids had to choose a superpower they wish they had to help make the world a better place. We will also have our first author's chair this week.
In math we will continue to work on rounding. Later in the week we will move to estimating sums and learning different mental math strategies.
In science we are learning about the water cycle and on Tuesday we will do an activity to see where earth's water goes when it leaves the surface.
The kids voted on a basket theme for Saturday Live this week and they chose a "Pets" themed basket. Here are the ideas they came up with:
- dog or cat collars
- leashes
- bones
- chew toys
- food
- treats
- hamster ball
- dog or cat bed
- stuffed animal toys
- cat toys
- tennis balls
- pet costumes
- food dish
- small fish tank (for a beta fish)
- gift cards to pet smart
If you have any other pet themed ideas please send them in! Saturday Live is on September 26th so I would love to have everything in by Tuesday, September 22nd so we can get everything put together in a basket. I will also be looking for someone or a couple people who might be interested in putting our basket together. Please let me know if you are! Thanks so much, this auction is such a great fund raiser for our school!!
