This week in reading we will get back into Lead21. We will be looking into the question: What do we do when things change? This week we will focus on the skills of determining important information, using context clues, determining author's purpose, and inflected endings.
In writing this week we will start a personal narrative. The kids will get to write a story about something in their life and we will work through the writing process. We will also learn about the 4 types of sentences: declarative, imperative, exclamation, and question.
In math this week we will continue practicing mental math strategies such as the break apart strategy. We will also learn how to estimate differences. We will be continuing to practice rounding, and that is always something good to practice at home!
In science we will continue our unit on the water cycle, the kids now should be able to tell you the 4 stages of the water cycle (precipitation, ground water, evaporation, and condensation). This week we will discuss salt water and fresh water. We will do an activity to discover where sources of fresh water are found.
Last week we started typing web, which is a great website for practicing typing. The link is under my "Cool Websites" tab and the kids are always welcome to go one at home and practice. Their user names are just their firstname.lastname and password is "student." A couple of the kids also have to add their number at the end of their last name.
I will be gone Tuesday afternoon for a training on our new math series. My guest teacher will be Heather McKenzie and she is great! She has been in my room before and knows my rules and routines. I am excited to attend this training and learn more about the online portion of our new math series!
