In reading we are starting our next unit, Science At Play. This is a fun unit and we will be researching based on our theme question: How does science help us have fun? This week we will be specifically looking at how science is involved in the sports we play. The skills we will be focusing on this week include: summarizing, antonyms, cause and effect, and contractions. Last week we did a great job of working together as a group during inquiry! I was so impressed!! We will use a little bit of time during the afternoons this week to finish up or unit 1 inquiry projects and we will present on Friday.
In writing we are starting our "Drippy" stories. I introduced these to the kids last week. They will be writing a story with Drippy the water droplet as their main character and Drippy must travel through all parts of the water cycle in the course of their story. This week we will look at the parts of a story and begin our prewriting and rough draft. In grammar we will also work on singular and plural nouns, and common and proper nouns.
In math we are now into chapter 2, which is all about organizing data. This week we will learn to read and make picture graphs, use and make bar graphs and solve problems using data. The thing to be extra careful about with graphs is that we are reading the key. Have your kiddo tell you what the key in a picture graph tells them!
Homework: reading log, picture graph worksheet
