In reading this week we are starting a new unit all about inventions! It is called What a Great Idea! This week we will focus on the skills of asking and answering questions, using a thesaurus, categorizing and classifying, and adjective and adverb suffixes. In writing we will finish up our compare and contrast paragraphs and then we will spend the rest of the week on poetry. The kids will also finish up their inquiry projects about animal adaptations this week and present on Friday.
In math we just started chapter 11 about area and perimeter. This week we will learn how to find perimeter by adding the distance around a shape, we will look for the unknown side lengths, we will determine area by counting unit squares, and find area by multiplying.
In social studies we will continue learning about supply and demand and in science the kids will finish their animal rescue devices this week.
Upcoming Events:
- May 3-5: NWEA testing for our class from 8:30-10:30 each day
- May 13th: 3rd grade musical 8:45 for the parents
- May 16-19: Smarter Balanced testing 8:30-10:30 each day
Please let me know if you have any questions or would like to schedule a conference. Inside the report cards was also a book list for each kiddo of books at their level. This just gives you an idea of the types of books they could be reading to make sure they are challenging themselves enough! I would also love for all the kids to be practicing their multiplication and division facts at home as well!
I hope you had a great weekend! I had fun watching Nate and Q play soccer on Saturday! They both hustled all game long and did a great job!
