Last week was a good, short week. We presented our unit 1 inquiry projects and the videos are up under the "Student Work" tab. The kids did a great job and I was very happy with their first presentations! We will start unit 2 next week. We also had the chance to meet with our first grade buddies for the first time on Friday, and that was very fun. We look forward to reading with them throughout the year!
In reading this week we are focusing on how science helps us understand the natural world. We will be reading chapter 3 of Science All Around and focusing on the skills of summarizing, analyzing idioms, cause and effect, and compound words.
In writing we will finish up our Drippy stories and we will also learn about common and proper nouns, as well as irregular plural nouns.
In math this week we will learn about line plots and then review our chapter 2 skills that meet our 3.MD.3 standard. We will take our ch. 2 test hopefully on Wednesday. Then on Friday we will start multiplication!!! I am so excited to get started with multiplication and I think the kids will be too! On Friday we will learn about how multiplication shows numbers in equal groups.
In social studies we are working on our Billings Brochures and in science this week we will start Project Lead the Way! Our first unit is about flight. We will begin this week learning about balanced and unbalanced forces and end the week learning about four different types of forces.
Homework: reading log, picture graph practice, finish decorating Drippy (conference slips will come home in Tues. Folders)
