Be ready for a fun and busy week this week! On Monday we have a guest speaker (Tad Kirschman, Hope's dad) coming in to talk to us about flight and being a pilot to go with our PLTW flight unit. I am very excited to learn from him!! This week is also Ms. Hernandez's last week, her last day will be Thursday. We will do a small celebration with her Thursday morning as we have loved having her in our classroom this fall! I have no doubt that she is going to be an amazing teacher!
Thursday night is also Arrowhead's Barnes and Noble night. Please stop by Barnes and Noble anytime from 4-8 and check out some fun activities, listen to teachers read, and look for great books! Make sure and let them know before you purchase anything that you are with Arrowhead school and part of the proceeds come back to our school, present this voucher to the cashier. I will be there reading some Christmas stories from 5:00-5:30. :)
In reading this week we are looking into the question: How do people figure things out? We are reading poems this week about different ways people figure things out. We will specifically be looking at limerick's and free verse poems. We will also be focusing on author's point of view, similes, alliteration, and rhyme.
In math this week we continuing with division strategies. We will look at division as repeated subtraction, division with array's, relate multiplication and division, and look at related facts. Remember now is a great time to be working on multiplication facts at home, knowing all the multiplication facts really helps with division! Flash cards are a great way to practice, or have your kiddo teach you multiplication spiral! I've also switched everyone to multiplication in Xtra Math. If you haven't logged in at home yet you my need to put in my email: [email protected] and then just your kiddo's name and their pin, which I believe we put on the cover of their planner (I'll double check this on Monday).
This week during morning meeting we are also starting a kindness revolution! In Tuesday folders I'll be sending home a calendar with 25 random acts of kindness on it, through the month of December I really want us thinking about spreading kindness everywhere we can. On Thursday (Dec. 1st) I'll be reading a book called, North Pole Ninjas, and it focusing on this idea of random acts of kindness (it was also written by my husband's cousin). The calendar is not homework, the kids don't have to do every item and they don't need to be done in any specific order, it is truly just for fun and everyone can participate as much as they'd like. I just want them to think about giving this holiday season and find just how much joy that can bring!
