In reading this week we are working on our novel study books in small group and close reading different Scholastic News and Time For Kids articles relating to the olympics in whole group. Throughout the week we will compare and contrast the different articles, work on summarizing, and work on identifying the main idea and supporting details. We will also spend some time finishing up inquiry projects and hopefully being ready to present by Friday.
In math this week we are cycling back to all the skills we have learned this year. I will also use this time to reassess a few kids on these skills to see if they have improved.
In writing this week we will complete our folktales and fables and share them during author's chair.
In science we will check in on the mealworms and see if they have entered the next stage of their life cycle yet. We will also be learning about the plant life cycle. In social studies the kids are learning about how to have a voice in their community. The idea we have set up is that the community only has enough money to build either a new park, or a new pool. The kids have picked which they would want and will be working on how they could convince people at a public meeting to build the park or pool.
Tuesday morning is field day from 9-11. Please make sure that your kiddo has appropriate clothes and shoes for this day (think P.E. and please avoid white shirts). Also you may want to send your kiddo with a change of clothes for the afternoon in case they get really wet during one of the water stations. Lastly, please remember to send them with sunscreen or put some on in the morning, we don't want lots of sunburns that day!!
