In math we are working on comparing and ordering fractions and start learning about equivalent fractions.
Report cards will go home on Friday, March 9th. If you would like a conference or have any concerns please give me a call or send an email. Just a note about equivalent fractions on the report card. That proficiency scale includes comparing fractions, which we have done, but we have not gotten to equivalent fractions yet. So their current score reflects comparing fractions. No one will be at proficient because we have just started and have not yet completed equivalent fractions.
With the start of third trimester I would really like to encourage the kids to be reading chapter books at their level to help them grow as readers. To do this I am starting a chapter book challenge. How it will work is for each chapter book that the kids finish they can fill out a summary sheet that I have at school. Then for every 5 books they finish they will get to sign a little sheet that will be posted in the room. If they read 10 chapter books, I will order them a book of their choice (under $5) from scholastic. If they get to 20 chapter books I will order them another book of their choice. For those kiddos who are reading larger chapter books, a book with 400 or more pages counts as 2 books. I'll explain this to the kiddos on Friday! Happy reading!!
