I apologize for not being able to get the videos of the kids' presentations posted. Something is not working right between my ipad and computer and I have been unable to download them. I plan to keep trying and hopefully be able to get those up for you at some point!
This week in reading we are focusing on the question: How can one person change the way you think? We will focus on the skills of visualizing, cause and effect, and idioms. In writing we are starting our opinion writing unit. We will start with writing about an activity that we think others should try.
In math this week we are starting division. We will be working on learning division strategies. We will also be starting our multiplication fluency. Starting this week for the next 6 weeks your kiddo will receive 6 facts to memorize (with commutative property as well, 6x2 and 2x6). They by the time we finish the six weeks we will have gotten through all the facts. Memorizing our multiplication facts is so helpful, especially as we learn division! Please take the time to practice these at home every night!! You will receive a letter in Tuesday folders as well as a practice quiz. We will then do a practice quiz in class everyday and a small assessment over those facts on Friday. Here are the week 1 facts: 8x2=16, 3x3=9, 9x6=54, 2x7=14, 5x5=25, 8x4=32.
Tuesday is Barnes and Noble night from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. If you are able take a couple minutes please swing by Barnes and Noble! There will be activities, guest readers (I read at 5:30 p.m.) and of course Christmas shopping! If you purchase anything just let them know you are with Arrowhead Elementary and a percentage comes back to our school!
On Friday we read a book called North Pole Ninjas. This book is written by Montana authors (one of them is my husband's cousin), and it is all about spreading Christmas kindness. I sent a little kindness calendar home with the kids with some fun ideas of how they could spread some kindness this Christmas! I hope you will participate and get involved too!!
