Last week we had an awesome presentation from Mr. McDowell all about flight to go with our PLTW unit on flight. We learned more about balanced forces on an airplane and why that is so important on a plane! Thank you Mr. McDowell!!
This week in reading we will investigate the essential question: What do we know about Earth and its neighbors? We will work on the skills of summarizing, main idea and key details, and suffixes.
In math this week we are working on division strategies. We will learn about division as repeated subtraction, do some problem solving, use the bar model, and relate multiplication to division. In math this week we are also starting a multiplication memorization program. Division is so much easier if we know our multiplication. So through this program we will work on memorizing 6 facts a week. Each week in Tuesday folders I'll send home the 6 facts as well as a practice quiz. Each day we will take a practice quiz as well and then on Friday we will take a longer test over those facts. After 6 weeks we will have all the facts down!! Here are the facts for this week: 8x2=16, 3x3=9, 9x6=54, 2x7=14, 5x5=25, 8x4=32.
This week we will have our dress rehearsal for the Christmas program on Tuesday morning and then the Christmas program will be on Friday at 8:45 and 1:00. Please be practicing your songs at home!!
