The kids did an excellent job during our NWEA testing this week! They worked hard and I am so proud of them! I will be sharing scores with you at Parent Teacher Conferences.
During Character Counts meeting this week we will be talking about perseverance. Everyone needs to learn about not giving up, even if we have to struggle through some things. So this week we will be reading stories and doing activities that talk about perseverance as well as those that force us to persevere!!
This coming week we will start week 3 of Lead21. We will be reading Scaredy Squirrel and focusing on the skills of making inferences, drawing conclusions, and the literary element of plot. The kids will also be reading their 3rd selection in their small group readers.
In math we are adding and subtracting 2 and 3 digit numbers. We are working with place value blocks to really see the regrouping. If you have an ipad at home there is a great free app to help with this called Number Pieces. We have used it in class and it really helps to see the regrouping if you don't have place value blocks at home!
In writing this week we are finishing up our personal narratives and sharing them with Author's Chair. We are also learning about the 4 different kinds of sentences: declarative, question, exclamatory, and imperative.
In science we are looking at the states of matter that water goes through: solid, liquid, and gas. We are also learning about the water cycle: evaporation, condensation, precipitation, and ground water. In social studies we will do a quick review of hemisphere, continent, country, and state. We will then start learning about the cardinal and intermediate directions.
Homework: Rounding review and reading log. Also if the kids could collect a few leaves this week for our art project on Friday. We are making leaf prints and it works best with leaves that are still alive and not yet crunchy. They can bring them in at any point during the week and I will hold onto them until Friday. Thanks!
The Code Word this week is : Perseverance
