Please remember and mark your calendars that we begin our testing next week. We will take the Smarter Balance tests starting Monday the 27th-Thursday the 30th. We will be testing in the morning from 8:30-10:30. Then the next week we have our NWEA testing on May 5-7. Please do your best to make sure your kiddo is at school during those times so we don't have to worry about make-up tests.
This week in reading we will read chapters 3-4 of What a Great Idea! We will be looking into problems and challenges that new inventions can sometimes present. We started inquiry last week and the kids each had to choose either an inventor or invention that they wanted to research. Part of their inquiry project will also be coming up with their own invention that they think would make life easier. This week we will be focusing on the skills of: monitoring comprehension, identifying main idea and supporting details, making analogies, and prefixes telling where. We will also spend some time in small group looking at reading performance tasks that are similar to the type the kids will encounter during testing. We did this a little last week and I can see the confidence growing. Like I told the kids, they have all the skills for testing, they just need to apply them and show what they know!!
In writing this week we are working on writing a friendly letter. Many of the kids don't know their address, I told them that is something they should find out for this week so they have it for their friendly letter. I would love if you could help them out and write it down in their planner (I don't want to look up 22 addresses)! I will give an extra $20 for their address. We will also be working on how to write a thank you card. For that we will be writing thank you cards to Mrs. Derrig, our secretary. Wednesday is Secretary's day and we are so lucky with our wonderful secretary!! Remember to tell her how wonderful she is if you have a chance!
In math this week we will be taking some time to review many of the math skills that we have learned this year. We will be review through some math activities that get us up and moving around!
In science we are looking at magnetic interactions this week.
