This week we are starting a Morning Meeting. This will be a great addition to our classroom. It gives the kids a chance to greet each other every morning. It also allows a time to share feelings and gives us all an opportunity to get to know each other better. As we get farther into the meetings we will also have a lesson on character. My hope is that these morning meetings will build on our classroom community and truly create an atmosphere where the kids care for one another.
In reading we are finishing up a few things from last week. We will be continuing to work on determining important information as well as prefixes. On Wednesday we are also going to take a practice smarter balanced test as a class. We will use the computers so that the kids will have the chance to learn about the program and how to use the different tools it offers. We do not know the exact dates for the smarter balanced test yet, but in will be in April and May.
In math this week we are looking further at patterns in a table and then starting in on fractions. Our initial start on fractions will be looking to identify equal parts of a whole and then look at naming fractional parts. Click here to check out a learnzillion video explaining the beginning of fractions!
On Wednesday afternoon we will be doing a perseverance group activity from 12:30-1:30. I am still looking for 2 more parent helpers. If you are able to help us out for that hour it would be so wonderful! Please let me know!!
In writing this week we will start our hero reports. In our unit we have been learning about different heroes from the past and for our reports we will choose one hero to research.
