This week we will be taking a break from Wonders to review some trickier concepts and give a us a little time to practice for SBAC testing that will be taking place in about a month from now. This means that there will be no spelling this week! Some of the concepts that we will be reviewing will be making inferences, main idea, and some extra grammar practice.
We will also be working on building read-to-self stamina! This is something that your kiddos may have told you about, as they are very excited about it! As we head into spring testing, which requires a lot of reading for long periods of time, I want to ensure that each student is prepared to do so! We also want to make sure they they are getting ready for 4th grade and have stamina built up for those requirements as well. As a class, we will be working toward the goal of being able to read, focused and uninterrupted for a total of 35 minutes. Once we are able to do this we will be celebrating with a fun reward... a reading camp-out! I will be sending home more information about this as we near the end of the month, but essentially we will have a day that will be packed with fun, camping-related activities which will tie into each subject area for that day. The kids are all very excited and motivated to reach their goal! We started with 10 minutes this week and they rocked it! I look forward to seeing the progress. :)
If there are any parents who are willing/able to volunteer any time, I do have some kids who could use a little extra help with their wax museum biographies. Just someone to sit with them and help them through the writing process. :) If this is something that you would be interested in, please feel free to email or call me. This can really be done at any time throughout the day!
